Midnight Madness

It's very late, and I'm very tired, so without further ado...

After my monster nap, I had two clemmies:

Crudités:

I'd been planning on having something healthy for dinner, since I've been eating pretty heavy things recently. But, of course, I started picking at the cold macaroni and cheese (leftovers) in the fridge, so I just gave in and heated it up. I steamed a whole bunch of veggies, but after only a few bites of my dinner I felt really full. This should have been my cue to stop eating, or at least wait a while for my stomach to settle, but no. I saved a few of the veggies but I ate all of the pasta. Ugh.

For some reason I'm always of the mind that fruit will un-bloat me.

And when that fails, why not try some chocolate?

It's a tradition at our school that every semester on the first night of finals, we have a "midnight breakfast" from 10-12. The teachers serve the students, you don't have to pay to get in, and pretty much the entire campus squeezes into our little cafeteria. Believe it or not, this is the first time I've actually gone!

I had some fruit and H2H cereal with skim milk.

I think they're starting to like being in the pictures! I rarely even get a grumble from this bunch anymore... I only had a little Reese's cup.

Hmm. So, I guess you can see that I've been thinking a lot about how eating when I'm not hungry anymore... I've noticed that I've been doing it since I went home for Thanksgiving. Going home always means eating my favorite foods, treating myself, and going back to that glorious childhood mentality of not caring. Oh, if only! The rich food in and of itself isn't what worries me, it's the mindless grazing and not listening to my body telling me it's had enough. So, I'll be working on this in the future...

Anyway, time for me to go to bed. Hope the week's off to a good start!

Early to bed

This is going to be short and sweet because I am really not feeling very well and want to get some shut-eye ASAP.

I had a TJ chili spiced dried mango slice... I HAVE to get these when I go home. I also just read in SHAPE that Jamie Lynn Siegler eats fruit with lime and chili... I will have to remember this combo.

Apple and footsies hard at work:

Food options were pretty awful today. I had another veggie burger on WW toast with cheddar, tomatoes, onions, lettuce and pickles (with ketchup and mustard of course).

Curried carrot ginger soup:

For dessert I picked the two smallest bars (cookie and apple coffee cake), cut those each in half and threw the rest away.

So, since dinner, I've been feeling really disgusting. I think the combination of eating too fast plus having a lot of sweet and heavy things in the past week is starting to take its toll on my body. I'd had a gym bag all packed up to workout, but even now, four hours later, I still feel bloated and nauseous. This is really disappointing because obviously I don't want to get sick right now, and I was really looking forward to exercising! It's rare when I get excited to work out, so that was doubly crushing. Bleh.

See you tomorrow, bloggies... Have sweet dreams!

Would you like some food with that butter?

Hello there! I forgot to bring my camera cord with me to study today, so there'll be a whole lotta eats on this page!

My grandparents can't do brunch tomorrow, so we had lunch today instead. Before I left, I had my Emergen-C, vitamins and a chocolate chip Z-Bar.

This is by far my favorite Z flavor. If I heated it up, I think I would have thought it was a regular ole cookie! I might stock up on these at eat 'em like dessert.

Snack bowl at the club... I had a few pretzel rods and two fish (they were stale, thank goodness):

Cappuccino with skim, which I refilled with plain coffee when I finished:

The. Best. Salad. Ever. Marinated jumbo shrimp on a bed of spinach with raisins, julienned apples, pecan pralines and a poppy seed dressing (on the side).

I used about half the dressing (which was delicious) and ate almost everything. I gobbled up a few too many pecans, but hey, you only live once!

I should tell that to my arteries... I forgot to ask for my English muffin "dry" and it came dripping with butter. I still ate it, and of course it was delicious (butter makes everything taste like heaven), but I would have rather skipped out on that.

I had one of the club chocolate chip cookie in the car (don't worry Mom, I was parked) ... like my sweet leopard gloves?

I headed straight to the campus center and got a cup of my beloved Coconut Chai tea with a little skim milk and honey. I might need to invest in this for home; it is so yummy and each bag lasts for about 3 cups. And it smells SO GOOD. Kind of like my perfume actually. (Hmm... food blogger taking food obsession to an unhealthy level?)

Jalene and I ate in the cafeteria today so we could stay at school and work. I had a veggie burger and lemon pepper green beans:

"Southwestern" butternut squash soup, which I added tofu to:

With a diet coke. I don't normally drink soda, but I needed the caffeine boost and I didn't want any more coffee.

Unfortunately the soup was so disgusting and sweet- Jalene called it "marmalade"- that I only had about a bite. I was still hungry, so I had a PB&J on WW toast.

And, I couldn't resist, a cookie bar.

Grapefruit study snack:

Since I ate dinner at 5:30 I'm already getting hungry. I didn't really eat breakfast (woke up at 11, lunch was at 12:30) so I'll probably just have a bowl of cereal now.

I got a good chunk of my work done today... I think it was because Ourkitchenadventures gave me the Lame-O award on the condition that I be productive. So thanks, Sarah! I feel so much better after actually getting stuff done, so I'm going to relax and watch a movie in bed.

Have a lovely evening!

Take a deep breath...

I know no one wants to hear how stressed out I am, but I just need to write it once: I am stressed out. Hopefully now that that's out of my system I can get over it and move on. I am, and have always been, the kind of person who leans towards ignoring/ denying a problem when I'm overwhelmed, which in turn ends up making things worse because I get down to a supreme time crunch, don't get enough sleep, and almost make myself hyperventilate. So here's to changing that as soon as I "Publish Post"!

I had a Chocolate Brownie Z Bar at Brewberry's. This was (I think... my memory seems to be going) the first time I tried this bar, and I liked it a whole lot better than the Honey Graham flavor. It did still have a little of that "protein" taste that I'm not so fond of, but at $.49, it's hard to complain about the small things.

Surprise surprise, cafeteria lunch again! I didn't have time to go home and make something to eat before class, but it wasn't too bad today.

Starting from the white blob (yogurt) on the left: plain yogurt, chili sauce (burned my poor tastebuds), cinnamon-flavored bulgar topped with coconut and raisins, steamed cauliflower, mixed greens with balsamic vinaigrette, cornmeal-dusted seitan with pick-a-peppa sauce.

Skim milk and coffee:

Joe presents my oh-so-beautiful chocolate chip cookie bar:

My reward for getting this Russian paper done is going to the gym. It's open until midnight, so I should be able to do that... It's funny that working out is a treat since I used to have to bribe myself just to get myself into my sneakers and running shorts! I think it's because I was so itchy to move when I was debilitated because of my injury, that now it really does seem like something special I "get" to do. Anyway, hopefully I'll be super-duper productive, get tons of work done, and get a nice little sweat session in.

Happy Humpday!

Tuesday, December 2, 2008

Hmm... case of the Tuesdays?

This day has been going by in a blur. It's already 4? How did that happen?

Nothing was screaming at me to eat it in the cafeteria at lunch, so I just grabbed a big mound of seitan, celery, and two types (spinach and garlic) of hummus.

I had all the seitan, a little of the celery and about 1/4 of the hummus. I also had half of this grapefruit. I guess my oats held me over longer than I'd expected this morning, and I just wasn't that hungry.

After class I had to go to Media Services to watch movies for my Russian paper. I snacked on this Lemon Bar Larabar.

I'm glad it was tart, because I really wasn't in the mood for something too sweet. I'd buy this flavor again.

Sorry I'm so blah today... I'm a little tired, and pretty overwhelmed with schoolwork. I'm going to get a quick workout in right now; I could really use the energy boost.

Have a great afternoon!

Hit the jackpot!

I'm alive, just a little tired and a lot busy!

I'd set my alarm for 7, and I got up and ate half of this Clif Builder's Peanut Butter bar. It is soooo much better than the Vanilla Almond! It has a delicious crunchy middle layer and I would buy it again.

Sadly, I decided I needed to sleep more and would go to the gym later, so I slept until 9:20 and had the rest of the bar.

I got a small skim latte with honey during Poetry:

Cafeteria lunch! I was starving.

Salad: spinach, cabbage, carrots, black olives, broc, cucumbers, chick peas, beets, etc. I got a chickpea/tempeh dish on the side. I didn't end up eating all of the salad, or any of the celery.

Muligatawny soup! I added peanuts, parsley, coconut and raisins.

With coffee. One of the guys who works there asked if I "always eat this healthy"... we all know the answer to that! Ha.

1/2 a cookie bar for dessert.

Pre-workout banana:

Bike:
35:00 minutes
6.06 miles
292 calories burned

ab series

Cheese sample at Whole Foods:

Groceries:

Total: $60.53. I saved $5.00 by using coupons!

This lovely package arrived in the AM, and brightened up my day!

My vitamins also finally came! Good day for mail.

I'm going to be late to my film screening, but I had to shower after my sweaty bike ride! I made dinner to bring, so I'll post those pics later. Happy Monday!

Coffee tallies and city stats

Ended up needing another little "boost" and gave in to the biscotti craving. Sadly they were out of chocolate chip and chocolate chip pistachio, so I got cherry almond. NOT GOOD. I dipped half in my coffee and saved the rest; I can't see myself eating it unless I crumble it up into oatmeal or something. Sad.

My mom suggested I tally how much I spend, weekly, at coffee shops. Today was kind of a splurge day (whoops), and with both coffee drinks and the cookie treat it was close to $10. Yikes!

We brought Carlye lunch at work, which took a little longer than expected because of some parking issues. Well, leaving the parking lot, I should say. We were parked next to a big black monster truck, and had no trouble getting in, but getting out was hard for both the truck driver and us! The poor guy was waiting for us to come out of Chipotle so we could help him out. He ended up having to help us, though: he ran back and forth between the front and back of my car as I pulled up and moved back 2 inches each time, until I was pointed the right way out. Thanks, Monster Truck Man!

Anywayyy, we made it to the cafeteria on time for "brunch" (I don't think that word applies when you get up at 7:30). I love going because I can get a huge pile of fruit and eggs cooked to order.

Egg whites with two slices of whole wheat bread (w/ whipped butter):

I don't think I got enough fruit.

Around 3:30 I had a little snack, which was going to be my pre-workout snack but I started feeling a little icky.

Archer Farms nonfat Honey Almond yogurt with 2 tbsp muesli (yes, I measured it out) and a serving of SELF. Sorry I caught you at an unflattering angle, Giada!

The magazine's annual "Best Places For Women" featured New York and Minneapolis in a couple areas:

New York is the #7 Healthiest City overall
Minneapolis has the #1 Healthiest Hearts
New Yorkers are the #1 Healthiest Commuters
New Yorkers are the #1 most likely to walk to work
People from Nassau-Suffolk County, NY (where we go a lot) have the lowest rate of depression

I think "my" cities did pretty well! To keep myself healthy, I pledge to make myself a delicious and nutritious home-cooked meal tonight. I just want to take it easy, relax with some tea, watch some holiday movies... and homework, what?
