Long day's journey into afternoon... and a product review

November is National Blog Posting Month (NaBloPoMo)! It's for bloggers to "pledge" to blog at least once a day, and for blog readers to find new and exciting blogs to read. Everybody wins!

This morning at the coffee shop was surprisingly productive! I got one paper out of the way, which is a small but gratifying start. Of course I owe this in (significant) part to my cafe au lait (Luke put a shot of espresso in it... definitely going to do this in the future). I also had a Kashi bar around 9.

Linda brought some gummies into Poetry today...

Sorry for the horrible photo... I didn't want to wake Jalene up by taking too many. In this is "spring baby greens mix" (on sale at Target), leftover tofu from last night and a little fresh tofu, half a green pepper, and a third of a sweet Vidalia onion. I packed some Light Lime Vinaigrette (Newman's Own) in a separate container.

These grapefruits were also on sale at Target. It was a little tart, but since I haven't been able to eat in the cafeteria I've been missing them a lot.

The folks over at Kardea sent me some samples of their bars:

A reader raved about these bars so I was anxious to try them out. They were created by the founder to manage his cholesterol (they contain 1 g of plant sterols which the wrapper says may reduce the risk of heart disease), are low in fat, and high in fiber and protein. I just had the Chai Spice flavor:

Chai Spice Kardea nutrition bar:

Nutrition Facts:
Serving: 1 bar (40 g)
Calories: 150
Fat: 5 g, (0.5 g saturated)
Cholesterol: 0 g
Total carbohydrates: 7 g
Dietary fiber: 5 g
Sugars: 9 g
Protein: 7 g

Ingredients: brown rice syrup, almonds, rolled oats, agave syrup, isolated soy protein, psyllium husk, chicory root fiber, plant sterol ester, aracia fiber, brown rice protein concentrate, lemon peel, brown rice flour, evaporated cane juice, soy lecithin, canola oil, tapioca starch, rice flour sugar, sunflower oil, salt, natural flavors, ginger, ascorbic acid, citric acid.

I really liked this bar. I could taste the chai and vanilla flavors, and could almost trick myself into eating this for dessert. The nutrition facts, (in terms of calories, fat, protein and fiber,) are comparable to Kashi chewy bars, with a texture a bit like a Larabar. These have less than half the fat of Larabars, however, and have bigger nutty chunks. Because of its relatively high fiber content (5 g) I'm hoping it'll keep me full until I'm ready for dinner, but I'll let you know. I still have three other flavors to try, but I would definitely buy this one again.

I'm in the library now to get some quality reading done. I'm not sure what to make for dinner yet... I've been lusting after a Martha Stewart squash and sage lasagna for weeks. But I don't have sage.... Or noodles, for that matter. I'll figure something out!

Katie girl, the BANANA NUT is beyond amazing!!! WIth Greek yogurt and some tea in between bites (bc it's so yummy and sweet!) it's HEAVEN. Seriously, I received two of that flavor (none of the lemon) and after tasting it I had to portion them into 4 halves and put them in ziplocks to savor their flayva <3 SUBLIME.

The Almond Cranberry is amazing too, if you like the smell/taste of Almond Extract/Almond Cookies-Marzipan. SO heavenly. Paired w/ greek yo and some Almond Sunset Tea it's perf.

I'm totally a tea addict (if you can't tell haha), but they really are fab accompaniments! Enjoy, I'm mad jeal.
